The exhibition, curated by Maria Grazia Bernardini, documents the influence of Italian on Flemish artist Anton Van Dyck. After its success in Washington, Genoa and London, the exhibition will reunite 36 exceptional masterpieces in Milan. These include two portraits from the National Gallery of Art in Washington and numerous loans from the National Galleries in London and Dublin, the Prado in Madrid and the Gemaldegalerie in Berlin. Other work were loaned by Antwerp, Strasbourg and Brussels, Palazzo Corsini, the Capitoline Museums and Brera.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is the recently discovered Lamentation of Christ. It was found thanks to the collective efforts of the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Storico Artistici di Roma and the Carabinieri’s cultural heritage task force.
