The 18th Century Masterpieces from the Uffizi Galleries Collections

The exhibition The 18th Century Masterpieces from the Uffizi Galleries Collections, the result of a collaboration between the Uffizi Galleries and the Bund One Art Museum in Shanghai. The exhibition focuses on a crucial period for the West. Many of the hallmarks of modernity, if not contemporaneity, began to take shape during this time. Changes were taking place everywhere. The ruling dynasties gradually diluted their sovereignty, the hitherto intact privileges of the aristocracy and the clergy were challenged, and the bourgeoisie began to emerge as a social class.

This, and more, is reflected in over 90 eighteenth-century paintings from the Uffizi Galleries, shown at the Bund One Art Museum. Masterpieces by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Antonio Canaletto, and Pompeo Batoni, adorn the exhibition, curated by Alessandra Griffo, which is developed in five sections concerned with the main themes of eighteenth-century painting, going from gender subjects to the birth of tourism and local folklore.
