PADIGLIONE DEL MESSICO ALLA 56. ESPOSIZIONE INTERNAZIONALE DI ARTE DELLA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA
Possessing Nature is presented by the Istitutio Nacional de Belas Artes of Mexico (INBA) and produced by the artists Tania Candiani and Luis Felipe Ortega. The exhibition is curated by Karla Jasso, and was selected to represent Mexico at the 56th Venice Art Biennale because of its precise concept, its technical prowess and its aesthetic power. The work is founded in the idea of juxtaposing Venice and Mexico City, both amphibious cities. While the first is married to the sea, the latter is arid and its lakes were drained to build cities during the colonial period. It is one work conceived by two artists: a great installation, a hydraulic system that wishes to underline an inevitable unbalance with nature and the different reactions to this. In a globalized world, technology arrogantly aspires to dominate nature to inevitably became a vicious and spoilt mechanism.
