The Exhibition

The exhibition Pompeii: The Exhibition takes visitors on a fascinating and dramatic journey through the history of the renowned Roman city, tragically destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Through a selection of extraordinary works and artifacts, the exhibition unveils Pompeii’s central role as a key hub of maritime trade and a favored retreat for the elite of the Roman Empire.

The exhibition pathway features artifacts from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the Archaeological Park of Pompei, showcasing the elegance and vibrancy of a Roman city at its peak. From marketplaces to bathhouses, from patrician villas to temples, visitors can immerse themselves in Pompeian daily life through exceptionally well-preserved objects: domestic utensils, refined architectural decorations, vibrant mosaics and frescoes, exquisite jewelry, and military items such as gladiatorial helmets and weapons.

One of the exhibition's most evocative highlights is the presentation of the famous plaster casts of the eruption's victims, a dramatic testimony to Pompei’s final hours. Created by pouring plaster into the voids left by bodies buried under volcanic ash, these casts provide a deeply moving and vivid glimpse into one of the most tragic moments in Roman history.

The exhibition is not only a celebration of Pompei's sophisticated culture but also a unique opportunity to explore the intricate interplay of architectural innovation, trade exchanges, and cultural influences that made Pompei a vital crossroads of the ancient Mediterranean. Pompeii: The Exhibition will be open to visitors from November 15, 2024, to April 13, 2025, offering everyone the chance to rediscover one of the most iconic cities of ancient history.
