Picasso. 1915-1925. Between Cubism and Classicism

The exhibition is curated by Olivier Berggruen with Annunciata Liechtestein, and presents more than 100 masterpieces by the artist, including paintings, gouaches, drawings, photographs, letters and documents. These document Picasso’s first trip to Italy, during which he visited Naples, Pompeii and Rome, in 1917, and how this influenced his style in the following years. Highlights include Two women running on the beach and The Race from the Musée National Picasso-Paris, the famous Portrait of Olga in an armchair from 1924, depicting the Ballets Russes dancer that Picasso met in Rome and later married, and the Harlequin from 1917. Also included are Harlequin in the mirror and Paulo as Harlequin, as well as the absolute masterpieces Seated Acrobat with folded arms and The Pan Flute.
