Days of exhibition
Organized for the Segesta Archaeological Park - Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity by MondoMostre in collaboration with Fondazione Merz, curated by Beatrice Merz and Agata Polizzi, it is a journey divided in different stages, as a quest for a common narrative among artists of different languages. Mario Merz, Costas Varotsos and Ignazio Mortellaro read the generative power of number and imagination, deal with dilated time and expanded form, confront with elegant respect the harmonic composure of ancient artifacts, but are not intimidated. Number and form, the code and the substance it expresses, fit into a living space: numbers and blue and red neon writings - the Fibonacci sequence - stretch across the columns of the ancient temple; sculptures of transparent and iridescent spirals, made - one would think - to be sculpted by light; ancient fusions of contemporary artists punctuate the space with the power of archaic rituals that resonate on the hills.
Rhythm, number can be found anywhere in nature: the growth of a plant trying to gain light, which is its perfect orientation; the spirals that demonstrate the natural will to increase and occupy space and, in this case, the stage. Aesthetics of the necessary, beyond the time of man and his gesture.
