The Ideal Life of the Ancient Greeks
The exhibition Gazing toward Olympus. The Ideal Life of the Ancient Greeks presents for the first time a selection of exquisite works of the highest quality, chosen to illustrate the lives of men and women in ancient Greece, as well as their religion and their culture.
Curated by Annalisa Lo Monaco, the exhibition showcases in the gallery of Anhui Museum in Hefei, a selection of works dating from the VI century BC to the II century AD. Works attributed to great masters alternate with and are complemented by everyday artifacts such as loom weights, weapons, jewels and vases, to describe more fully the various fields in which Greek culture expressed itself, its constituent elements and the aspects that make it still today of central importance in understanding contemporary society and culture.
With more than 120 loans from the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, which plays a crucial role in disseminating Ancient Greek culture and civilization, especially through its outstanding Magna Graecia collection, the exhibitions includes an extraordinary variety of ceramics, sculptures, weapons, and jewelry of various origins and provenience, carefully selected to portray Greek culture and its influence on the Italic peoples.
