Guarded by the earth for centuries, the treasures of Herculaneum will be presented in St. Petersburg in a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition that highlights one of the most important monuments of the ancient city: the Basilica, which was also referred to as Porticus or Augusteum. This was located in the western section of the ancient city. Eighteenth-century maps, ancient inscriptions, sculptures and mosaics illustrate the history of the culture that is credited with inspiring European Enlightenment.
