The Wonders of Italian Baroque
The exhibition Caravaggio. The Wonders of Italian Baroque, at the Shanghai Museum of Art Pudong, featuring more than 60 masterpieces of Italian Baroque mainly from the famous Galleria Borghese collection, is the first major exposition in China dedicated to Michelangelo Merisi, knows as Caravaggio.
An exhibition itinerary through the works of great artists such as Annibale Carracci, Giovanni Baglione, Giovanni Lanfranco, Pietro da Cortona, Guido Reni, Domenichino, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini will introduce the visitor to the marvels of the 17th century Baroque art scene. The highlights of this journey are Caravaggio's masterpieces, six paintings including the Ragazzo con Canestra di Frutta (Boy with a Basket of Fruit) and San Giovanni Battista (St. John the Baptist) from the Galleria Borghese, as well as other prestigious loans from the Gallerie degli Uffizi, Galleria d'Arte Antica Barberini-Corsini, Banca Popolare di Vicenza and a private collection.
