Curator Louis Godart has selected 27 exceptional works, each representing a member country of the European Union, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signature of the Treaty of Rome. The selected works testify the cultural progress that – from the ancient world to present days – has advanced the civilization of Europe thanks to the effort of each member state. The exhibition illustrates the wealth and unique nature of Europe’s cultural heritage, and is the first time that a selection of artworks is characterized as being European. Works on display include The Thinker  by Rodin, the Portrait of a man with grey eyes by Titian, a Korai from the Acropolis in Athens, the Reclining woman by Schiele, Dürer’s Portrait of Jakob Muffel, The Arrival of Louis-Philippe at Portsmouth by Turner and the View of the Gardens at Villa Medici by Velázquez.
