The exhibition curated by Lisa Dennison presents 80 masterpieces from the Guggenheim Museums in New York, Bilbao and Venice together for the first time. These represent 20th-century art history and pay homage to Solomon and Peggy Guggenheim, two of the most important figures in the world art collecting in recent history. Both had a passion and powerful instinct, and a healthy curiosity for the avant-garde movements and new forms of expression of the 20th century. Their acquisitions and support of the arts were years ahead of the fashions of the time and were precursors to their great success. Their personal collections have since grown through the acquisitions of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Visitors will travel through the history of contemporary art, from the 1870s and the Impressionist revolution, to the 1970s and the new frontiers opened by Pop Art.
