The Grand Theater of Cities. Masterpieces from the National Galleries of Ancient Art

The exhibition Canaletto, Van Wittel, Bellotto. The Grand Theater of Cities. Masterpieces from the National Galleries of Ancient Art invites visitors to explore the allure of Italian art cities and their evocative power through twelve masterpieces, transforming the Monumental Complex of San Francesco into an immersive journey through the Italy of the Grand Tour.

From Canaletto's views capturing Venice with a crystalline light and meticulous detail, to Van Wittel’s lively and dignified Rome—painted by the Dutch-born artist—and the imaginative compositions of Pannini, whose classical ruins evoke the magnificence of the Eternal City, the exhibit culminates with Bellotto’s works. Bellotto extends Venetian art beyond Italy's borders, portraying Dresden as an open-air theater. This unique collection celebrates the artistic transformation of the urban landscape, elevating it to a vast open-air stage where reality and imagination blend in spectacular scenes.

Promoted by Fondazione CRC and Intesa Sanpaolo, in collaboration with the National Galleries of Ancient Art, the exhibition, curated by Paola Nicita and Yuri Primarosa, will be open from November 30, 2024, to March 30, 2025.
