Arcimboldo. Nature into art

The origin of the curatorial thesis is to investigate links between Japanese art and Arcimboldo’s allegorical composed heads. Twenty exceptional works by the milanese artist will travel to Tokyo for the first time, including a complete set of the Four Seasons and Four Elements, the works the artist is best known for. The exhibition is curated by Sylvia Ferino-Pagden, one of the world’s leading Arcimboldo scholars and former Director of the Picture Gallery of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. In addition to works by the artist, the exhibition will also feature Habsburg portraits, a selection of  rare and precious objects from Vienna’s imperial Wunderkammer and from the workshops of Milan, and drawings of plants, fruits and animals. An interactive installation will allow visitors to generate their own portrait as a composed head of fruits and vegetables.
