Andrea Del Verrocchio

The exhibition is curated by father Alessio Geretti, director of the Comitato di San Floriano in Illegio. It features Verrocchio’s Christ and St. Thomas, exceptionally granted by the Museo Orsanmichele in Florence. Vasari describes Andrea di Michele di Francesco di Cione (1437 - 1488), also known as Verrocchio, as “a goldsmith, sculptor, painter and musician”. The artist worked mainly at the court of Lorenzo the Magnificent (Florence, 1449 - 1492). His workshop produced some of the greatest artists of the 15th and 16th centuries including Leonardo, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Perugino, Francesco di Simone Ferrucci and Francesco Botticini. Verrocchio was particularly influential because of his curiosity and experimentation with techniques that were still uncommon in the second half of the 15th century.
