Amedeo Modigliani et ses amis

The exhibition is curated by Jean Michel Bouhours, curator of the department of modern collections at the Center Pompidou, and presents Amedeo Modigliani’s work in the context of the so-called ‘School of Paris’. The latter term, coined by art critic André Warnod, refers to a handful of artists mostly of Jewish origin who gathered in Paris after being discriminated against in their own countries. The “Aureolated City of the bold” was already home to the Impressionists and many other fin de siècle movements such as Symbolism. The exhibition was conceived from a corpus of about 70 works from the collections of the Center Pompidou in Paris. Another forty works by Modigliani were borrowed from other museums in France and Italy, or from private collectors, including the Jean Walter et Paul Guillaume collection at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris.
